Why Radio Is Still Effective

In a recent blog post on InfinityConcepts.com, an audio advertising company that connects national advertisers to radio listeners, the effectiveness of radio was argued as a still relevant medium that continues to dominate in the marketplace.

A recent “Share of Ear” report claims that on a typical day, at least 90% of Americans listen only to AM/FM radio, which accounts for about 75% of the total share of ad-supported audio time. Compare that to podcasting, which while growing exponentially, still only reaches about 14% of the listening audience. While it’s true that more of that broadcast radio time is coming from streaming audio, with a record-high 16% of total AM/FM listening among persons 25-54 during Q2 2022 coming from streaming, it’s still broadcast radio.

The author argues that radio is still very much effective because of accessibility, companionship, and discovery. At 89.5 KTSY and Project 88.7, we have seen each of these areas be reasons our listeners keep coming back and tuning in at record numbers.

First, accessibility is available almost everywhere. There is an FM/AM radio in every car and that’s still the case in new cars being sold. Almost all radio stations are streaming online, including KTSY and Project, and are accessible via smart speakers. There aren’t many places that radio can’t go.

Companionship is a big differentiator as well, especially for faith-based stations. We have a special relationship with our listeners that affirms and values our faith together. And it’s not only through music, which can be accessed anywhere at any time. The value we offer through the messaging, imaging, even our business impact parter spots brings hope, encourages community, and shines a light into darkness. That’s something that a playlist simply can not provide.

Discovery is also a reason our listeners are tuning in to KTSY and Project. They hear music they love, while discovering new music from the artists they know and love, alongside newer artists that are rising up. By listening to a tightly curated list, they trust us to put songs in front of them that will impact their life on a regular basis.

When you partner with KTSY and Project, you make all of this possible for other listeners who need to be impacted by the love of Jesus Christ. And, you get to reach an audience that will highly value that support, building trust in your message and company faster than anywhere else.
